The Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) is the primary resource for determining customs classifications for goods imported into the United States. The HTSUS is based on the international Harmonized Schedule, the global system of nomenclature that is used to describe most world trade in goods, which is maintained by the World Customs Organization. While the HTSUS is published and maintained by the U.S. International Trade Commission, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the only U.S. federal agency that can provide legally binding advice or rulings on classification of imports.
